Our Mother
Born in 1917, initially named Josephine Rita, for her parents, Joseph and Josephine, they shortened it to "Jorita" due to her small birth weight of 2 ¯ lbs.She was one of three children, having one sister and one brother.
Mom's milestones and accomplishments:
Weighed 10 lbs. by one year of age.
Walked at age three.
Enjoyed ice skating, playing the violin, and was an avid tennis player.
A graduate of St. Agnes Academy and St. Mary of the Woods College.
She studied education and taught kindergarten for one year until,
She married in 1945, and began her family in 1946.
She was born prematurely, no one ever thought Mom could bear children,
but God blessed her with seven healthy children.
Mom will be remembered for:
Her breakfasts of chip beef on toast, rolled oats, and cream of wheat.
The fearful fraternity paddle, which was her means of scolding the boys,
However, it hurt her much more than them.
Her faithful encouragement to all of us
Staying up all night typing our term papers
Lover of nature, her bird calls which she was so good at imitating
Pianist, especially we remember her favorite piece, Smilin' Through
Her friendship, humility, daily faith-filled living
Unconditional love, caring and her love of Chocolate!
