Death Date: 1/6/2002
Memorial Park Cemetery
Section 8, Lot 247, Grave 10

Dr. William E. Stansbury was born at home in Tell City, Indiana, on May 8, 1925, to Nellie K. Sparrow and Samuel A. Stansbury Sr. He had one brother, Samuel A. Stansbury Jr. otherwise known as Archie. He joined the navy at the age of 17. His father had to sign him to join. His father died while he was stationed in the South Pacific. The Red Cross failed to inform him. He was stationed in Palau where he received a Purple Heart for injuries received in battle. On December 8, 1945, Dr. Stansbury married Geraldine Gill. In 1949, he was accepted into Indiana University, and graduated in 1956 from medical school. Dr. Stansbury started medical school with three children and finished with six. His first office was at 38th and Sherman, and his second was located at 21st St. and Ritter. He practiced medicine on the East side of Indianapolis for 44 years. Dr. Stansbury was the Grandfather of 21 and Great-Grandfather of 12. He loved to cut his grass, plant his garden, and work with his roses. He loved his work, and loved his family. He was a stern, but compassionate, intelligent and logical man. He was strong physically and mentally. He was a small town country doctor in a big city. Dr. Stansbury really enjoyed the Harmony Barber Shop singers. He attended every event with the ladies that he could. He loved the singing as well as the women. Dr. Stansbury would say, 'My wife and I have six children, not because I am conscientious Catholic, but just a passionate Protestant.' Dr. Stansbury was always early wherever he went. If he arrived fifteen minutes early, to him he was late. His favorite hobby was reading. He read as often as possible. Dr. Stansbury loved to travel and always had to have the window seat on the plane. Dr. Stansbury died extremely suddenly from a heart attack. He will be greatly missed by everyone.
