Mary Hoover Davidson, born July 6, 1910, in Tipton, Indiana, was known as the 'Tipton church baby.' Her happy and outgoing nature, plus her blue eyes and black hair like her father's, made everyone attracted to her. She was almost four when the family moved to Indianapolis, just before the birth of Esther on May 20, 1914. Florence was then eleven years old and Lyman was thirteen. Mary went to grade school # 57 in Irvington. She played the violin in the school orchestra and continued to play the violin in the high school orchestra at Shortridge. In 1927, after high school graduation, she entered Butler University and became a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. By that time, Butler had moved from Irvington to the Fairview campus. Mary loved to dance; she took part in the Fairview Follies as a member of the chorus. She always had a good time. She majored in Home Economics and prepared to be a teacher following graduation. In the midst of the 'depression', she found a job at Stillman Valley, Illinois, near Rockford, and began to teach cooking and sewing, and to lead the high school orchestra.Malcolm Davidson and she had dated off and on in college. When she left town, however, their friendship became serious, and he persuaded Mary to stop teaching and marry him on June 18, 1932, again in the family living room and again with her father as the minister. Malcolm's parents, Roy and Mayflower, with his grandmother Simmons were present. A family reception again followed.Malcolm Davidson was an expert salesman for many years before his retirement. He had been born in PIttsboro, Indiana, on November 8, 1910. He moved with his parents to Indianapolis where his father owned and managed a lumber company. Malcom graduated from Arsenal Techinal High School. He played the saxophone and at Butler, was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.Mary and Malcolm lived in Chicago, Muncie, Indiana, Williamsport, Pennsylvania and Indianapolis. During World War II Malcolm was in the Navy; Mary and their two children, Danny and Marcia continued to live in Williamsport. Following the war the family lived in Troy, New York, where Roy Hoover Davidson was born in 1950. They moved to Florida and eventually settled in Orlando where they lived for many years in Winter Park.Their last home was in Lynchburg, Virginia, in a comfortable apartment. As members of the Christian Church in Lynchburg, they enjoyed many friends and outings. Malcolm died on January 14, 1988. Mary lived until July 21, 1992. As of now, they have six great-grandchildren and eight grandchildren.
