| Mary Louise (Hagberg) Ross was born on December 13, 1927 at Youngstown, OH to Mary Bjorson and Wilmer Hagberg. She lost her mother to cancer at the age of 13 after which her father moved them to Bard, California to live on date ranch with her uncle. She attended school at Yuma, Arizona and graduated in 1947. She attended Arizona State College at Flagstaff, Arizona for two years. In 1949, she met Raymond Ross who was stationed at the US Naval Air Station at El Centro, California. On March 11, 1950, they were married at El Centro and she gave up college life to be a Navy wife.They had two daughters, Karen and Cynthia, and being a military family, they traveled throughout the country for the next 18 years. She had to be both mother and father four of those years while her husband served overseas aboard various ships.In October 1967, her husband retired from the Navy and they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where they resided until her death on September 29, 2001. Her husband, two daughters and two granddaughters survive her.The one thing she was most known for was her engaging smile that rarely disappeared. Her most cherished memories were of her friendships developed during her years as a Navy Wife. |
