Birth Date: 9/21/1913
Death Date: 11/11/2001
Washington Park North Cemetery
Garden of Angels, Lot 272, Grave 1

Mr. Lawrence Orville Samuels, son of the late Charles and Millie Lawrence Samuels, was born September 21, 1913 in Rockport, Indiana. He was one of nine children born to this union.

Lawrence attended elementary school in Rockport and then started working at a young age to help support his parents and siblings. He was very family and spiritually oriented.

As a young man he united in Holy Matrimony to the former Dora Tally and to this union one daughter was born, Berdetta Ann. He was widowed after six years of marriage. He then moved north to Indianapolis, Indiana and met and married Helen Jordan and became a father to her daughter, Helen Ruth.

He was employed by Kingom's, which became Hygrades, working in the slaughterhouse. He worked there for many years until they went out of business. He was employed with the Indianapolis Public School system as a custodian at Arsenal Technical High School until his retirement in 1984.

In 1967, he was widowed for a second time. He developed a relationship and constant companion with Goldie M. Baker until his death.

Lawrence was a faithful member of the 25th Street Baptist Church and when he was unable to attend church services due to illness, he faithfully paid his tithes monthly.

Grandpa was always a man with a big heart and an open house. He was a strong focused individual who lived to make every day a better day.

He loved the outdoors and working with his hands. His greatest love was hunting.

Grandson,
Lawrence Coleman
