Born to a large family; by today's standards, Jack Wilson Main arrived into the world in Elwood City, Pennsylvania on March 17, 1924.Moving to Indianapolis, Indiana in his childhood, family became residents of the Irvington area. After attending Public Grade School, he enrolled in high school at Arsenal Technical High School, from which he graduated in 1943. The War called, and the Navy hailed Jack to join. Because he became an aviation radioman, he quickly learned Morse code and found himself on board planes and ships as he completed Service to his Country. With Honorable Discharge from the Navy in 1946, he was college bound. A career in Chiropractic soon beckoned him to Davenport, Iowa. He received his first degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic and then proceeded to St. Louis, Missouri to enroll in Logan Basic Chiropractic College. Six years of college later he had fallen in love and married Mary Kelley, his 'one and only honey babe'. Again, he found himself returning to Indianapolis, where he opened his own Chiropractic Office and began to establish a long-standing practice.Jack a past member and treasurer of Frank H. Sparks Toastmaster Club 2000, Treasurer Hoosier Round Table, Parliamentary Club Treasurer, Legislative Chairman and President of PTA School #88 1971-1972, Co-Legislative Chairman of Indianapolis PTA Council, Board member and Legislative Chairman of Indiana State Chiropractic Assoc. and First Chiropractor to be appointed by the Governor to serve on the Medicaid Advisory Committee in the State of Indiana 1969-1972.Golf ensued and Jack, who never did have a hobby alone to be just a hobby, began to be a passion. Photography also budded into a lifelong passion and the photographer's eye was always focused on some perfect subject. Three children, two girls and a boy, Sandy, Jack Jr. and Kim became accustomed to Jack Sr.'s quest to play golf and take pictures, so their childhood was filled with lots of side trip adventures. Fortunately for Jack, 'Honey Babe' usually appreciated his adventures and passion, libraries, golf courses, garage sales, books (an endless collection) and reading into the late hours of the night, Jack was found in his office burning the midnight oil in his personal quest for knowledge, a dictionary always by his side.Grandchildren arrived and found 'Grandpa' a delight between his willingness to take them sledding, kite flying and beach combing. The child in him became their adventure roads also. Christmas was an inside/outside project and Grandpa Jack's house and yard was loaded with childhood decorations and lights. Helping Grandpa was a great excuse for justifying most of the things most Moms would caution against. Jack was great because he liked being the biggest kid himself. We loved him and know no one could ever fill his shoes.
