The following is part of what Pastor Ball said at Louise's service; written August 11, 1996 by Doris Alberts and given to Pastor Chuck Ball; with the approval of Kay Surprenant and Paula Phoenix, Louise's daughters. My mother never cared for long, flowery eulogies that only extolled the virtues of the deceased. She wanted hers to be honest. She wanted you to know she was mean sometimes. (That's the first thing she said to Pastor Ball when she met him.) She was bad. She was good. She was happy. She was sad. She danced. She cried. She laughed. She loved. She hated. She was kind. She was mean. She was human, but she always tried to be better and to work harder. Throughout her life, she was always proud of her family and friends. My mother left some instructions for each of you. (My mother was always giving instructions.) She wanted you to: 1. Be happy.2. Take care of each other.3. Know that she was proud of you.4. Know that she loved each of you with all her heart. These are your instructions. Please follow them, because we don't want to hear about it if you don't and, believe me, she will know.
