Clyde Jarrett was one of twins born to a farmer and his Cherokee Indian wife in Tipton County, Indiana. Throughout his life, he worked jobs in carpentry and as a night watchman to make ends meet and provide for his family. His daughter, Elnora recalled during the depression he was able to barter his skills in exchange for food supplies and they never did without. Clyde led a very hard life, enduring the loss of his first daughter, Margaret May to pneumonia at 7 months of age. His second daughter, Fanny Louise died of complications from a ruptured appendix during the depression. His youngest daughter fought and eventually recovered from polio therapy. Clyde used his carpentry skills to build a tub for polio therapy designed by a doctor. His youngest son, John spent 26 months in a German POW Camp during WW2. His oldest son, William along with Elnora, John and LaVerne admired his strength through his life of struggles. |
