Audrey E. Deckard was born November 30, 1915 and graduated to her heavenly home April 11, 2001. Affectionately known as 'Mam' by her loving family and many friends, Audrey was never without a kind word, helping hand or reassuring hug.Married at age fifteen to Rev. Clifford Charles Deckard, Mam labored beside him as a devoted pastor's wife for forty-five years. After his death in 1976, she continued with speaking engagements at various churches. The Deckard's were well known and highly regarded in the United Pentecostal Church, Inc. Mam was first and always a Christian. Her daily approach to life consisted of much prayer and Bible reading. She left a wonderful testimony of honest and upright righteous living. There was never a question as to what Mam believed; her life was a direct reflection.Having never had grandparents herself, Mam delighted in being a grandmother. All seventeen grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren and six of seven great-great- grandchildren had opportunities to spend time with Mam. She had a unique way of making each one feel they were special. Mam loved to cook, bake and crochet. The grandchildren usually were the recipients of her handiwork. Her sense of humor was quick and second to none. Her wisdom was deep, her love unconditional and infinite. However, Mam's eight-five years also spanned areas of deep sorrow and heartache. She was the comforter and pillar of strength during the deaths of her parents, siblings, husband and three of her five beloved children. Mam possessed a deep faith and unending hope of a better tomorrow. To us, her family, she was an angel. She left a void impossible to fill. Birthdays, holidays, vacations, they will forever be changed. There always is her empty chair to remind us of her forever presence.Rest well, dear Mam, now that you are without pain or worry. Until we meet at the 'better tomorrow', we will never cease to miss you wonderful smile, your comforting touch, and your encouraging words. We love you, Mam, always have and always will.
