My mother's brother and sister were twelve and eighteen years older than she was. Her mother was twenty-nine and her father was forty-nine when she was born. Her mother died when she was fifteen years old.She lived most of her life in Indianapolis. She did live in New York City for eight years after she met and married my father. She moved to New York City at just twenty years of age so that when my father came home on leave she could see him. She transferred with the weather bureau to New York.Upon her return to Indianapolis and once she became a mother, she spent most of her time as a homemaker. She did not go back to work until six years after my father died. When my father died, she was left to raise two children ages twelve and eight. She did a fantastic job of being both parents to us.Once she did go back to work, she worked for Walker Research. She worked for them for fifteen years before she retired. She maintained her home for thirty-four years. It was the home that she and my father bought just five months before he died. She was so proud of her home. It was always so neat and tidy and as pretty as a picture. My mother enjoyed traveling. She took my brother and I to Europe for a month after I graduated from high school. It was a chance of a lifetime for all of us. She traveled several times a year to visit my family and me in Maryland. She once maintained that she did not want to live to be an older than seventy-two. When she passed this milestone, she decided that she did not want to live to be seventy-nine. She died from complications after heart surgery at seventy-eight years of age.
