Denise Arlene Royer Pottorff, was born in Robinson, Illinois on December 5, 1936. Her mother, Nellie Mae Mail Royer was raised in a farm in Palestine, Illinois. She retired from Kroger Grocery. Her father, James Elbert Royer was born in Midland, Indiana and worked as a railroader for New York Central Railroad. They moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1940, where her two sisters, Shirley Ann Royer Cook and Marilyn Kay Royer Woodcock were born. She married William R. Judd in 1952 and divorced him in 1954. They had one daughter, Kerry Kaye Judd Kiesling. She married Larry Dale Pottorff from Martinsville, Indiana on February 17, 1968 and was a devoted and loving wife to him for the remainder of her life. Denise and Larry had two granddaughters, Jennifer Leigh Foster, who married Robert Harmeyer and Amber Marie Bradburn. Denise had one Great Grandson Evan Foster-Harmeyer. She was a very caring daughter, wife, mother grandmother, sister and aunt who loved being with her family. She enjoyed having everyone come to Lake Lemon, where they lived, after she and Larry retired from Eli Lilly's. She worked at Lilly's for 37 years, retiring in 1992. She was a very devoted pet owner, and was especially close to Callie Cat, Mindy the Wonderdog and Annie, her Border Collie. Photography, Reading, Poetry, Collecting Hallmark Ornaments, Gardening, Feeding Birds, Cooking and Traveling were a few of her favorite hobbies. She enjoyed IU Basketball, Notre Dame Football and the Indianapolis Colts. She loved being by the water and outdoors and watching sunrises and sunsets. She never gave up, even during her struggle with ovarian cancer, the most difficult battle of her life. She enjoyed life to the fullest, and enriched the lives of those she knew. Two of her most memorable characteristics were her beautiful smile and wonderful laugh. Many of her friends repeatedly said at her funeral, 'She sure knew how to have fun!' And she did! |
