Son, Grandson, Cousin, Student, Classmate, Teammate, Brother, Brother-in-law, Neighbor, Coach, Counselor, Club Member, Educator, Fraternity Brother, Teacher, Friend, Father, Husband, Child of God. All describe William "Bill" Howard Scott at some point in his life.

William was born April 14, 1937, in Sipsey, Alabama. The son of Jennie Hagler and John Jordon, he was raised by his grandparents, Emma and Isom Scott. In 1950, William and his family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended Indianapolis Public Schools, including Crispus Attucks High School, where he was active in several sports including track, cross-country, baseball and basketball. William excelled in each sport, winning eight varsity letters, two in each sport. He also was a starting guard on the 1955 Indiana Basketball State Championship team, along with Oscar Robertson, "The Big O".

William graduated from Crispus Attucks and continued his education and participation in sports at Butler University. As a member of the Butler Basketball team, he received honors as the leading scorer, the most valuable player and was recipient of the Hilton U. Brown Mental Attitude Award. In 1998, William was inducted into the Butler University Hall of Fame. William's career as a teacher, coach and counselor in the Indianapolis Public Schools spanned four decades of commitment to children and sports. He returned to his alma mater, Crispus Attucks, where he shared his experience, expertise, talent and love of sports with hundreds of boys and girls. William Scott's life mission was to make children realize that academics and athletics work hand in hand to achieve one's goals.

With this in mind, The William "Bill" H. Scott Youth Recreation Area was dedicated in his memory on the grounds of Witherspoon Presbyterian Church, his church since childhood. This area contains youth and playground equipment and serves to permanently memorialize William's life, love and dedication to youth.

His family, friends, former students and associates will long cherish William Scott's memory.
