Evelyn M. Meadows, born May 25, 1920, lived her entire life in Indianapolis, Indiana. Throughout her life, she improvised, adapted and overcame not only the traditional barriers in life, but also those associated with being ahead of her time and putting her family first. She passed away on April 17, 2001 being survived by her five children, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. The daughter of John and Ethel Morgan, Evelyn had one brother John Morgan and a sister Judy Dorsett Hill. In 1946, she married Turner J. Meadows and was widowed in August 1988.She maintained a 'can do' attitude up to the time of her death. Her spunkiness and consistent acts of kindness provided an inspiration to others. Her grandchildren will forever remember a Grandma that shot baskets, played board games, tennis and was car mechanic with them. Evelyn was a 1938 graduate of Shortridge High School. When her father died at age sixteen, she entered the workforce and attended school at the same time. This work ethic continued throughout her life. Retiring from St. Vincent Hospital in 1987 as a Senior Patients Accounts Representative, her employment career also included Sears, Dolly Madison, Eli Lilly and Western Optical. Even during her latter years of her life, Evelyn could be counted upon to work the attendance books at Lakeview Christian Church of which she was a member and active worshipper. Her work ethic was surpassed fulfilling with strong values, attitudes and beliefs that fueled exceptional performances and earned her several recognition awards. Her accomplishments at home differed little from her value systems at work. She loved her children and guided them to succeed in life. Her five children benefited from her example, love and encouragements to always do the best they could. Her Christianity never faltered and her strong faith allowed her to make the most of her last days without fear.
