Senifta was the eldest of three Ardeleans born at 111 S. California above an ice cream store near today's Washington Street "Friday's" restaurant. She attended immigrant School #5 (where today's IMAX theater stands) and graduated from old Manual High School in 1932. Her first job was as a stenographer for $5 a week and then at RCA on the east side of Indianapolis. She retired from Eli Lilly as an assembly line worker in 1971 after over 20 years. Nifty was married over 48 years when her husband died. Their first child was still-born in 1943 but they had two children and five grandchildren. She died after four days at Northwest Manor Nursing Home with her family present in 1995 after a year long battle with lymphoma. |
