Mildred was one of four children, born in Mars Hill, Indiana in 1919 and died on March 9, 2001. She went to Manual High School at the downtown location and lived most of her life on the south side of Indianapolis. She served in the Armed Forces during World War II and was discharged in 1943. She married Peter Minkus in 1945 and raised two children, Paul and Peter. Her father had been a tailor for forty-five years and she inherited a love for needlework from him. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church for about 45 years. She crocheted two "Lord's Prayers" for St. Mark and St. Bethany churches and did a lot of needlepoint. She also made over 35 quilts and sold most of them. She won two ribbons for her quilts at the Indiana State Fair and one at the Marion County State Fair. Mildred was a fifty year member of Prospect Eastern Star Chapter and she received a fifty year pin. |
