Albert Roger Snyder

Birth Date: 11/27/1917
Death Date: 2/4/2001
Washington Park North Cemetery
Court of King Solomon, Section AS, Level 4, Crypt 56

Known to his family as Roger, distinguished from his father Albert, Roger was a "people" person. He never met a stranger and was as comfortable talking to the President of a university or an under privilege person. He was forever optimistic and saw the good in everyone. Children flocked around him, his dog awaited him and once he had 14 cats, which, his mother gave to the farm "Egg man".

A mastoid operation and measles as a child left him with impaired hearing and eyesight. He camouflaged these disabilities well and served his country 3 + years in WW2, Pacific Theater. Upon his honorable discharge, his best friend Pete introduced him to an Armenian girl. Two years later, they were married and had four sons. He was the devoted father and fifth son. He swam with them, cheered them playing football and as a scout counselor helped boys, including his sons, to become Eagle Scouts. Jeff and Dan graduated from West Point, Brad from Butler University, and Phillip had a natural talent for tools and electronics.
Although a night person, for 42 years he rose at 6:00 am to go to work as a mechanical engineer at Union Carbide, Linde Division.

Never president of an organization, his assistance and novel ideas made the president's tenure an easy and memorable one. His love of cars never diminished and he delighted in sitting around a table laden with food, entertaining family and friends with stories of his childhood, college and army days. He found humor and enjoyment in every phase of his life.

He left this world not in personal glory or wealth, but with an imprint on all creatures large and small. His motto was " Do the best you can with what you have." To know him was not to forget him.
