Gladys liked to crochet and make crafts. She liked her flowers and plants. Her pumpkin and peach pies and apple and berry dumplings were the best. Gladys was fond of birds; she always had a canary or a parakeet. Her favorite music was "Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass" and Big Band Sounds from WW2". Gladys lived through the war and recession in the 30's. She saw the 1913 flood and made it with the help of grandparents, John Webb, Nancy Schoolie Webb, Martin Elkins and Elizabeth Bains Webb from Illinois. Gladys had a stroke in 1982 and she had to move into the Northwest Manor Home. Her daughter's visits were goodies and treats. Christmas, 1983 she was dressed as Mrs. Santa Claus. Mr. Claus kissed her as she helped pass out gifts to the residents. Easter she was dressed in an old time outfit with a bonnet. Gladys was ok, but she felt like she was in a jail. She missed her home and her independence. Before she grew to old, she would travel to California every winter to visit her son, Bill and his family. Gladys lived alone 22 years. She was still proud of her hair, she liked to dress up and wear her diamond rings.
"Extra Prayer"
When the world falls down around you And a prayer will see you through, Say an extra prayer for someone Who may need it more than you? For who knows what hearts are breaking In the silence of the night? Just that extra prayer you whisper May help someone see the light! Every time you help a stranger With an extra prayer or two You are building secret blessings That will all come back to you!
