Mr. Emmitt Hurley Carlton, Sr., the son of James David Carlton and Laura Jones Carlton was born May 25, 1927 in Salisbury, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents. Emmitt completed his primary and secondary education in the local area schools. Emmitt later attended Tennessee State University. An honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army he served his country with distinction. Later moving to Indianapolis, Indiana where he worked for the Internal Revenue. After thirty-three years working, in the department of engineering as a draftsman with the United States Naval Avionics Facilities, he retired. On June 4, 1954 Emmitt married Adell Ricks. It was the beginning of forty-six years of love and devotion for each other. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother and uncle. |

Emmitts home since 1971. Emmitt was very proud of his home and his large yard. His favorite pass time was spent grooming his lawn.

The family vacation home in Virginia. It was built by Adell's father in 1939 and has been kept by the family as a place for reunions. It is surrounded by cotton fields and country sides.
