Homer was born on January 21,1914, the first child of Lizzie Ethel Fulkerson and John William Morris. They lived on 6th Street in Henderson, KY. Peppau ran a tin shop and when Homer grew up he worked with his dad, making gutters, tin roof and even made stills. He made anything out of metal. His CB handle was Metal Man. Homer was a handsome young man and loved to party. He told interesting stories of borrowing his dads Model T, going to barn dances in the country and walking girls in the moonlight, but when he laid eyes on Virgie Mae Green, that was it for him. Six weeks of courtship and they married on November 10, 1937. Dad was a self-taught musician, playing the piano at age 10. He once took guitar lessons and the teacher told him he couldn't teach him a thing. Dad had his own unique style. He played a very jazzy piano too. Sometimes 'The Sweet Bye and Bye' would turn into 'The St. Louis Blues'. He took a lot of artistic license. He loved to listen to music. Very often he played his records by Chet Atkins and played his guitar right along while listening. He was a lifelong member of the church of God Prophecy. In church daddy played piano and Mama sang. They made beautiful music together. Dad had a very interesting life. In his young days he was a semi pro wrestler in Evansville, Indiana. He built and flew model airplanes. he valued books and had quite a library on history and nature. Cable TV extended his world for him, the Discovery and Learning channels were his favorites. Of course, so was the WWF and old western movies. In his later years, dad enjoyed his close knit family. Friday nights we all ate out together and he fascinated us all with his unique humor. Mom and dad celebrated 63 years together with an Anniversary Party in November 2000. Although it was their last anniversary together, we are all looking forward to a family reunion. See you in the morning, CH |
