Gerald Luther Royer

Birth Date: 11/28/1908
Death Date: 5/9/1957
Memorial Park Cemetery
Section 12, Lot 66, Grave 1

My father, Gerald Luther Royer, was born 2nd oldest son to Dennis and Ada Mae Royer on November 28,1908. His brother Glen was born June 27,1902 and Paul, his younger brother was born on December 18, 1912. Dennis ran the General Store in Patricksburg, Indiana. The Royer name is still engraved on the store front today in 2001. All 3 sons helped their father in the store which provided groceries and dry goods for the town. around 1925 the town of Patricksburg caught fire and burned completely down. They pumped the old mill pond dry trying to put out the fire, but all was lost. Granddad lost his store. He rebuilt after the fire. All 3 boys attended Patricksburg grade school and high school. Dad played basketball on the school team. He also learned to play the violin. The boys enjoyed hunting and fishing. dad went to school with my mother, Lenna Audrey Cassida, and they were married on November 8, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the home of his parents who had moved there earlier. Mom and dad were charter members of Faith Lutheran Church and were born again Christians. On September 15, 1943 I, Judith Ann Duncan, and later to become Judith Springer, was born and I am the only child of Gerald and Audrey Royer. Mom and dad were 1 of 4 couples that built the drive-in-theater in Linton, Indiana. Many weekends in the summer were spent visiting my Grandma and Granddad Cassida when mom and dad traveled to Linton to work at the theater. This afforded us many wonderful memories of Aunts, Uncles and cousins during these visits. Dad worked as a wielder for Mitchum and Shafter until his death on May 9, 1957. He was a loving husband and father. I always felt cheated that his life was cut short at such a young age and we didn't get to share so many of the important things in life. He was only 48 years old when he died of a sudden heart attack. Dad was a good Christian man and I am sure he is in Heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
