My Mother, Lenna Audrey Cassida Royer was born on April 21,1910 at Jordan Village, Indiana, the oldest of 7 children born to Ada and Carl Cassida. Audrey, as she was called, grew up in a rural farming community. her father was a farmer by trade, but also had a sawmill, his own thrashing machine, and shop where he sharpened tools and did handy work. Mom attended Patricksburg High School with my father, Gerald Luther Royer, and was later married to him on November 8,1936. Mom was an excellent student and was skilled in playing the piano and organ. Dad played the violin and shared in her love of music. They were both born again Christians and were charter members of Faith Lutheran Church. Church activities included, church and Sunday School, choir, playing piano or organ, helping out with vacation bible school and other various church activities. After dad died suddenly of heart attack in 1957, she joined Mount Olive Methodist Church and was active there for many years. On September 15,1943, I Judith Ann Royer Duncan and later to become Judith Springer, was born and am the only child of Audrey and Gerald. Mom enjoyed gardening, quilting, traveling and spending time with her beloved granddaughter, Kimberley Annette Foreman. Mom and dad were one of four couples who built the Drive-in-theater in Linton, Indiana. Many weekends in the Summer were spent visiting Grandma and Granddad Cassida in Patricksburg and afforded many wonderful memories of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. After Dad died, she started working for Link Belt in the accounts payable department and retired from there on 1975. The later years of her life were hard because she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1986. She lived with me from 1989 to 1992. By this time the disease had progressed to the point she needed 24 hour care and had to be admitted to a nursing home until her death on January 3, 2001. Mom was a loving and caring Christian lady, who loved her family, had lots of friends, and lived life to the fullest. I loved her dearly and will miss her, but I rest assured that she is in Heaven with her Lord the Savior, Jesus Christ. I will always be grateful that she raised me in a good Christian home and taught me about our Lord. |
