Mark was one of the most caring individuals I have ever known. We all have our remembrances of him. Mine relate to IU basketball. One year I received two free tickets from Ted Kitchel to a home IU game in Bloomington. I asked Mark to go with me and sit behind the IU bench. I was sure he would go; instead, he asked that his wife Gina go in his place. He said it would get her out of the house and give her a break from the kids and grandkids. Thinking of others was always Mark's way. He was a kind and wonderful human being, who unfortunately gave up on life too early.
Financially and materially, he had little, but his heart was bigger than the Grand Canyon. As expressed in Michael's eulogy to Mark at the funeral, 'Mark would give you his last penny if you needed it. He was such a special person.'
Dan and Pat attest to Mark's outstanding work ethic as they followed in his footsteps, growing up. Working at Bob Wonning's Watermelon Patch every summer in Vincennes, Bob once said to them, 'If you are just ½ as good as your brother Mark, you'll be great.'
Jeff's remembrances include going frog gigging at Kelso Creek in Vincennes. Also, Richard took Mark and Jeff camping at Bruceville Mine Pond when a severe thunderstorm came through in the night. Mom and Dad drove out to find them in the woods with Richard lying over Mark and Jeff's bodies as they shivered in fear.
Ray was Mark's Best Man at his wedding to Gina in 1972. Mark and Ray are the only two Andrews boys married to their high school sweethearts for 28 plus years.
Over the years we've laughed, we've cried; the memories are many. Some of Mark's favorite quotes were 'There he goes!' and 'I hear ya!' I know the love we all shared will remain in our hearts forever. Mark, may you rest in peace. We love and miss you very much.
