Gwendolyn was born in Richmond, Virginia. When Gwen was born she had an older sister, Cheryl, who was five and an eleven month old sister, Michelle. Gwen and Michelle were like twins when they were little; they dressed alike and enjoyed playing together. Gwen swam and dove at age one. She loved camping in Virginia and North Carolina. She was always agile and athletic, climbing things and hanging from the gym set as a toddler. Gwen made excellent grades in school. She was a cheerleader, ran track and was all around on the gymnastics team. In gymnastics she excelled at the floor exercises, beam and vault. She was a four year member of the marching band playing the trumpet and trombone. She played French horn in concert band winning several solo awards. As an adult part of the family when baby sister Jerri Lynn came along, Gwen was very affectionate. She taught her sister to do cross stitch, make monster sandwiches and how to be focused in her studies. She attended Indiana University for one year, then joined the US Navy. She became a squadron leader in boot camp and served three years. Gwen then went on to attend Vincennes University graduating with honors in Mortuary Science. Gwen always had a passion for the ocean, so upon graduating Vincennes, took a position in Miami, FL. In her spare time she spent her hours wind surfing. Gwen was a very intelligent woman. She loved her family very much. She was a true and loyal friend. Gwen loved the more simplistic things in life. She enjoyed nature and living and playing near the ocean. She enjoyed listening to a Jimmy Buffett concert while sitting on her wind surfer in the ocean off of a South Florida beach. She collected sea shells in her spare time. Gwen graduated from Vincennes University's Mortuary Science program in 1986. She worked as a mortician in South Florida for several years. Her one true companion was her cat, Smiley.
