Thelma was born in her grandparent's home at 514 S. Warman Ave. on the west side of Indianapolis. She lived with her parents and brother (two yrs. younger) near West & Washington Streets where her father ran a restaurant until the Great Depression forced him to close in 1930. Thelma attended School #5 (where the Imax Theater is now located) through the 3rd grade. She then attended School #50 until her graduation in 1935. She graduated from Washington High School in 1939 and then from Butler University in 1943. Miss Bloomenstock began her teaching career in 1943 as a 6th grade instructor at School #22 near Morris and Meridian Streets. With her marriage and subsequent birth of two sons she began teaching 3rd and 4th grade at School #50 in 1953 until her retirement in 1985. For over twenty years she served on the Hawthorne Community Center Board of Directors as Board Secretary. She had two grandchildren, two nephews and one niece and their children at her death. She died at 7548 Lindsay Dr. where she, Ed and John had moved in 1972. She lived 70 days after her cancer diagnosis.

Thelma Lee Bloomenstock was born in a corner of her grandmother's bedroom on 9/5/1921 at 514 S. Warman Ave.



Her father's restaurant near West & Washington Streets in the 1920's had a sign which read, "Our coffee has a kick like a flapper's kiss."



Thelma attended IPS School #5 through the 3rd grade and graduated from IPS #50 in 1935 the year her sister Anita was born. Thelma, Anita & Bobby.



At nearby Washington High School she participated in the National Honor Society, German Club, Hi-Y Club, Civic Quest, and Washingtonians. She placed second in the citywide Hayward Barcus Essay Contest and graduated in 1939.



Catching a bus at Warman & Washington Streets she attended Butler University where she graduated in 1943. At Butler she was a member of the YWCA, Butler Independent Association, and the Kappa Delta Phi honorary sorority. Shown here with boyfriend PFC Eddie Bopp.



Thelma married Edward Bopp on 10/14/1944 in the Methodist Church at Holmes & Ida St. Her granddaughter was married in the same dress on 6/27/1998). Gene Posey, Bill Sipe, sister Anita, Marie Gilbrech, father Lee and Charlie Garver.



She started her teaching career at IPS School #22 near Meridian & Morris Streets in 1943 and in 1953 transferred to IPS #50 where she retired in 1985.



Thelma & Ed had 2 sons. Eddie Jr. was born in 1947 and Johnny in 1952. They lived at 515, 203 and built a brick home at 321, all on S. Warman Ave. Their grandkids were born in 1965 (Eddie Tom) and 1970 (Monica).



Mom was proud of her generations sacrifices. Here she dons her future husband's hat in the backyard at 301 S. Harris.
